Whale Education Month 2018 draws to a close

ORCA's innovative education programme smashes records during sophomore year.

ORCA's Whale Education Month is a fixture in the calendar each October and involves sharing free-of-charge teaching materials to primary schools across the UK and beyond.

Teachers can sign up to receive a set of free lessons that show children the wonderful world of whales and dolphins, as well as teaching them about some of the threats marine life faces.

Whale Education Month finishes tomorrow, but has already broken all sort of records in its second year, with 681 schools and community groups signing up to take part. Based on estimates from teachers, around 61,000 students have used the resources in 2018, which is more than ten times the number we reached in 2017!

The materials were also used by students in other corners of globe - as well as schools from the Isles of Scilly to the Shetland Islands, we have also had pupils from as far afield as Poland, Australia and Chile using the materials.

Altogether almost 1000 teachers have benefitted from the materials, which were produced in part with the incredible support of Tesco Bags of Help grants. We hope everyone enjoys the last couple of days of Whale Education Month 2018 and keep an eye out for news about our plans for 2019 soon!
