ORCA will be monitoring whales and dolphins on a very special cruise in May 2021 with Oceanwide Expeditions.
The trip is the latest in a series of collaborations in the long running partnership with expedition cruise specialists Oceanwide Expeditions, a relationship that has seen ORCA teams collecting data in some of the most remote parts of the ocean.
Taking place aboard m/v Plancius, the voyage will depart from Longyearbyen on 28th May 2021, sailing west towards the ice pack in the Greenland Sea in search of the elusive bowhead whale and some of the other incredible marine life that can be seen around this incredible area.
In the past this trip has also recorded northern bottlenose whales, belugas and even on occasion fin whales. There are also a number of seal species (such as bearded seals and walruses) and an array of bird life on show.
We will have a Cruise Conservationist on board this trip collecting vital data to help understand the whales and dolphins in this understudied area, and guests will be able to take an active part in helping to spot wildlife as a part of this research.
Oceanwide Expeditions have also pledged to make a donation to ORCA for every supporter or member that books on to the trip, so by booking on you will also be helping to support our work to protect the oceans.
