TSky, a Taiwanese technology company, have donated equipment for ORCA surveys.
The company’s 730FL-S GPS loggers are a key part of the ORCA tool kit, allowing teams that are using digital tablets for data collection to maintain an accurate GPS reading at all times.
As ORCA’s survey network grows, keeping our teams fully equipped becomes increasingly difficult but TSky have stepped in to support ORCA by donating 20 of the units, worth more than £1200, to ensure that the entire ORCA network can stay fully equipped for years to come.
“TSky’s donation is vital to ensure we can give our amazing volunteers the tools they need to help us protect whales and dolphins.” said ORCA’s Science Officer, James Robbins. “Maintaining highly accurate GPS readings is a critical component of our data collection protocol, and the TSky units are the perfect tool to enable this.”
TSky, founded in 2006, manufacture a range of GPS and antenna devices for commercial and private applications, as well as wearable connected devices. The GPS logger ORCA will be using is also used by a range of other clients including taxi companies and freight companies.
“We are happy that we can use our GPS product to help to protect whales and dolphins.” Said TSKY’s General Manager, Eric Liu. “It is really exciting to see fully equipped ORCA teams ready for their surveys.”
ORCA teams will be using these new units on some of the 100+ surveys we are running in 2019, as well as on the dozens of cruises that see our teams travelling all over the world.
