CalMac Ferries is teaming up with ORCA to give you a unique opportunity to explore the Hebrides on a mini cruise on board MV The Clansman and at the same time learn more about ORCA’s work in Scotland.
The mini cruise will take place on 28 August include a crossing from Oban via, the Sound of Mull, the islands of Coll and Tiree and then on to Castlebay on the island of Barra, before returning on the same route .
You will join ORCA Wildlife Officer Andy Gilbert during the crossing, and after boarding the ship will join him for a short talk discussing the islands you will see during the crossing and also find out more about ORCA’s innovative partnership with CalMac.
Once clear of the Sound of Mull, it will be time to get out on deck looking at for some of the amazing species that can be seen, ranging from minke whales to Risso’s dolphins to basking sharks. You will also be able to enjoy the stunning scenery and learn more about life on these islands.
Andy will be on hand to answer any questions and help you to spot and identify any wildlife you come across during the voyage, hopefully showing you some of the whales, dolphins and porpoises ORCA work with CalMac to protect.
Some other species regular seen in this area include short-beaked common dolphins, harbour porpoises and white-tailed sea eagles, with the sights and sounds of the Hebrides offering plenty to enjoy when there is no wildlife on show.
There will also be plenty of time while on board to sample some of CalMac’s fantastic food and drink offer. CalMac uses wherever possible locally sourced provenance, and everything is freshly prepared for you on board.
