ORCA Marine Mammal Surveyor policy in response to Novel Coronavirus ‘COVID-19’
ORCA has a duty of care to all our volunteer Marine Mammal Surveyors and in light of recent Government advice, travel disruptions and restricted access to the bridge on some ferries, we have taken the decision to suspend ALL Marine Mammal Surveyor ferry surveys with immediate effect until June 1st 2020. This decision was not taken lightly and we will continue to monitor and review the situation, providing updates if our policy alters.
With regards to ORCA Marine Mammal Surveyors on board Saga cruises, we are following the advice of Saga. Currently (correct at time of email) Saga have taken the decision to temporarily suspend their Ocean Cruises on board Saga Sapphire and Spirit of Discovery from March 15th to May 1st 2020. ORCAs next Saga cruise team is due to set sail on June 16th 2020. We remain in contact with Saga and will keep the ORCA team due on board this cruise updated with any alterations to this. We advise the members of all the confirmed ORCA Saga teams not to make any travel arrangements at this stage as the situation is ever evolving.
Some of you may also be involved in ORCAs other work areas, such as Cruise Conservationists and Wildlife Officers. A separate email will be sent to all of those involved in these work areas.
We thank you for your understanding in this uncertain time and we strongly advise everyone to follow Government advice regarding COVID-19, this information can be found here https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response
With best wishes,
